MINNESOTA (Valley News Live) - Minnesota DNR conservation officers and law enforcement agencies are participating in Operation Dry Water over 4th of July weekend.

Operation Dry Water is a nationwide campaign focused on preventing boating while under the influence. Their mission is to reduce the number of alcohol- and drug-related incidents and fatalities through increased recreational boater awareness.

Nearly 50% of boating fatalities in Minnesota involve alcohol as a leading contributing factor, making impaired operation one of the biggest threats on the water.

Minnesota DNR conservation officers say before boaters head out, expect busy waterway and heavy traffic on the water. Leave alcohol on shore.

“Remember: drunk boating is drunk driving and carries the same legal consequences,” said Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.
