Fargo man who threatened Trump on Facebook sentenced to time served, two years supervised release

FARGO, N.D. (Valley News Live) - A Fargo man who pleaded guilty to threatening President Donald Trump on Facebook has been sentenced to time served and two years of supervised release.

Andrew Walter Sandvik was sentenced Thursday in U.S. District Court for the District of North Dakota by Chief U.S. District Judge Peter D. Welte. He will serve no additional prison time beyond what he has already served. Three remaining counts of the indictment were dismissed at sentencing.

As Valley News Live reported in April 2026, Sandvik pleaded guilty to one count of threatening the president under federal law. The charge stemmed from a post he made to his Facebook account on August 30, 2025, which read: “TRUMP I AM THREATENING YOUR ENTIRE EXISTENCE! YOUR SS CANNOT PROTECT YOU FROM ME!”

Federal investigators said Sandvik’s online threats escalated between August and October 2025, targeting Trump, the Secret Service, and local law enforcement officers in Fargo and West Fargo. The FBI opened its investigation in September 2025 after a Fargo Police detective flagged the posts.

As conditions of his two-year supervised release, Sandvik must participate in mental health treatment and substance abuse counseling, abstain from alcohol and illegal drugs, and submit to searches of his person, property, and electronic devices by a probation officer.
