FARGO, N.D. (Valley News Live) - The risk of vehicles being used as weapons to attack attendees of large public events is a known threat to communities across the nation. In response to this threat, The Fargo Police Department recommended the purchase of a Modular Vehicle Barrier (MVB3X) system from Advanced Security Technologies to enhance public safety and further bolster security at public events in the city.

”Current traffic control measures, such as traditional barricades, Jersey barriers and snow plow trucks that risk vehicle damage, are either insufficient, labor-intensive or impractical for rapid deployment. The MVB3X system offers an innovative solution, addressing these shortcomings while improving our overall response capabilities,” Chief Dave Zibolski wrote in a memorandum, noting that the system allows barriers to be moved and erected without heavy equipment.

The City Commission voted 5-0 on Tuesday to approve allocating $372,416 in Public Safety Sales Tax revenue to acquire the vehicle barrier system for use at events this year and into the future.
