FARGO, N.D. (Valley News Live) - On Halloween night in the Fargo-Moorhead area, a man dressed as Jason Voorhees, the character from the movies, spends his evening in the shadows waiting to scare people.

His look brings screams and smiles around the town he loves most.

Before he comes out, there is a lot of work to do to become the character.

This year, he did not get ready alone. His son helped.

“Getting my son involved, it was really cool to see the passing of the torch. Well, I still hold the torch still, but sharing it, I guess,” he said.

Every detail is designed to turn a place full of actors into a nightmare.

Waiting in the dark

He said he gets into a “hunting mode.”

“I just get into that mode, it’s almost like a hunting mode. I just gotta stay in the shadows and look where people are coming,” he said.

He waits in the dark, listening and watching, and lets people think they are safe for a short time.

“They go around to different places and then I end up catching them. It’s funny how many adults I get that think they’re unscareable,” he said.

A Halloween tradition

He has turned a love of horror into a Halloween tradition.

“I just love Halloween, it’s fun scaring people and getting dressed up and getting into character,” he said.
