North Dakota Highway Patrol responds to car fire on I-29

The North Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating a vehicle fire that happened Saturday afternoon on I-29, just two miles north of Grand Forks.

Jillian Skjordal, 23, of Cavalier was driving a Nissan Maxima south on Interstate 29 when the vehicle suffered a mechanical malfunction. The Nissan was driven to the shoulder where it caught fire and burned. An area of the west ditch also burned.

The driver and passenger was not injured. The right-hand lane of southbound traffic was closed briefly to allow fire crews to work. Traffic continued moving throughout the incident.
