Search For Standoff Suspect Continues Near Thief River Falls

UPDATE: A warrant has been issued for the arrest of Eric Reinbold on 3 felony assault charges.

The search continues today for a rural, Oklee, Minnesota man following a 12-hour standoff with authorities yesterday. The location is 15-miles southeast of Thief River Falls or 6 miles north of Oklee.
Police were called to Reinbold’s farmstead yesterday morning, when a passing motorist spotted Reinbold’s pickup, ramming his wife’s car with 2 of their children in it.
This morning, law enforcement officers, along with family and friends continued the search for Eric Reinbold around his farmstead.
Yesterday, a Deputy who arrived on the scene heard Reinbold yelling from the woods, saying he was armed. The Deputy retreated and law enforcement agencies from 3 counties were called in.
Authorities say Reinbold’s wife and children are safe and they don’t believe he should be a danger to the general public.
Sheriff Ray Kuznia: “Who he was mad at was his significant other, his wife. And I don’t believe he’s going to pose any threat to the public. We still have deputies in the area and it will remain that way today. We’re hoping to get him apprehended.”
Sheriff Kuznia says they believe Reinbold is on foot. He says they backed out of the area last night for safety reasons.
Sheriff Ray Kuznia: “In low light anything could happen. It’s hard to see the other officers, when we’re searching and all those type of things. It was decided last night to wait until daylight to search again.”
And while Sheriff Kuznia says he doesn’t believe Reinbold is a danger to the general public, a neighbor I spoke with was a little uneasy about the situation.
If you spot Reinbold, you’re asked to contact police immediately.
