Marijuana growing in a local park? Cops say no

FARGO, N.D. (Valley News Live) James Prentice from Fargo said he was walking his dog in Jefferson Park when he came across a plant that he thought might be marijuana.

“It looks dead. I’m not sure what it is. I just think it needs to be checked out because it’s so close to the school,” Prentice said.

Sgt. Kevin Pallas with the Fargo Police Department said it makes sense that an individual who isn’t trained mistook the plant for marijuana.

"Somebody thought the tree itself was maybe producing marijuana below and actually it wasn't. It was the tree itself, coming back up from the seedlings,” Pallas said.

Pallas said it’s important for people to know they can call the cops in their community for anything they think might be criminal activity, big or small. However, he also said people should contact authorities first before they contact the media concerning what could be criminal activity.
