Engineer Involved in Casselton Train Derailment Suing BNSF

Casselton, ND December 30, 2013

The engineer of the BNSF railway train that derailed and exploded west of Casselton in December 2013 is suing the railroad.

Bryan Thompson of Fargo says he suffered severe and permanent emotional injuries and left his career as an engineer as a result of the derailment.

He claims BNSF was negligent in providing a reasonably safe place to work, didn't warn him of the dangers of hauling explosive oil tank cars and failed to properly inspect, maintain and repair its cars, equipment and track.

Thompson is asking for a jury trial and unspecified damages. The railroad has yet to file a response to the lawsuit.
