FARGO, N.D. Today was the day for the community to rummage through numerous items up for sale at Grace Lutheran School in an effort to raise enough money for a service dog for a 3 1/2-year-old girl named Lucy who has autism.
A unique twist, none of the items have a price tag so those making a purchase are asked to give a donation from their heart.
Lucy's father Michael Wirtz says, "This afternoon, somebody had come in, bought a few items then went aside, wrote a $2,000 check and handed it over. My wife chased him down in the parking lot, gave him a big hug and said thank you."
The family started the day with about $21,000 and is confident they will raise the rest of the $25,000 needed for the service dog.
