UND runs unbeaten streak to 11 with 3-2 win at Minnesota
Visiting North Dakota ran its unbeaten streak to 11 with a 3-2 win at Minnesota Friday evening at 3M Arena at Mariucci in non-conference play.
Minnesota (5-8-3) got the early jump on a goal just 2:41 in as co-captain Tyler Nanne point shot found its way past Adam Scheel.
Nearly exactly 10 minutes later, Judd Caulfield stole the puck behind the Minnesota net and fed Shane Pinto in front, who buried it past Jared Moe gloveside for his sixth goal of the season.
Early in the second, Jasper Weatherby gave North Dakota the lead with his fifth goal of the season. Nearly seven minutes later it was a 3-1 UND lead on Jordan Kawaguchi's team-leading seventh goal of the year. Matt Kiersted threw one on net from the far boards and Kawaguchi was there to redirect it in front for his 10th game in his last 11 registering at least one point.
The Gophers would get one back in the third, but Adam Scheel stood tall for his 12th win of the season, making 23 saves.
North Dakota finishes the first half next week by returning to National Collegiate Hockey Conference play at second-place Western Michigan next Friday and Saturday from Kalamazoo, Mich.
