GRAND FORKS, N.D. (Valley News Live) -- North Dakota sophomore goaltender Peter Thome is expected to return to the lineup this weekend against Minnesota Duluth, less than a week after freshman Adam Scheel was injured in a loss at Western Michigan.
UND Head Coach Brad Berry said Wednesday Scheel still needed to go through another test to determine the extent of his injury.
Scheel was hurt late in Saturday's loss to Western Michigan on a Broncos shorthanded goal.
Thome suffered an injury in January which forced UND to use Scheel for every game this calendar year.
"I feel good. I practiced the whole week last week so this is my second full week. So getting back into game shape, feeling good, feeling the puck. So feeling good," Thome said Wednesday.
Thome has appeared in just six games this season with a 1-3 record registering a .838 save percentage.
"He's relaxed, he's focused, and I think he's more than excited about the opportunity going forward here," Berry said.
North Dakota hosts Minnesota Duluth Friday and Saturday. Puck drop Friday is set for 7:37 p.m.
