Talley Earns Trip to NCAA Outdoor Championships in Hammer Throw

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (NDSU Athletics) -- North Dakota State men's track & field athlete Alex Talley is going to the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the hammer throw.

The sophomore from West Fargo, N.D., threw 210-9 (64.24m) to finish 11th at the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds on Thursday, earning his first trip to the national meet. The top 12 places advance to the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Austin, Texas, on June 5-8.

Talley becomes the third Bison man to qualify for the Division I Championships in the hammer throw, joining Casey Orgon (2013) and Jacob McBride (2018).

Junior Michael Keogan finished 34th in the hammer throw with a mark of 193-10 (59.08m), and Bison sophomore Jacob Slate took 44th place.

Bison redshirt freshman Brandon Lewis placed 41st in the long jump in his NCAA Prelims debut, jumping 22-07.75 (6.90m).

The NDSU men will continue competition at the NCAA West Prelims on Friday with entries in the javelin, discus, and 200m dash.
