GRAND FORKS, N.D. (Valley News Live) -- Running back John Santiago is expected to return to action for the North Dakota football team Saturday when the Fighting Hawks host Montana.
Santiago was injured in the loss to Idaho State September 22nd and missed the following week at Northern Colorado.
UND Head Coach Bubba Schweigert made the announcement Monday during his weekly press conference.
"He's always been a guy that's recovered. He's tough and he's knows his body very well so he made some good strides during the open week and we expect him to be available on Saturday."
North Dakota (3-2) is coming off an open week which the players said was a welcomed break from the first five weeks of football.
Schweigert said the goal during the open week was to get guys like Santiago healthy and develop depth with younger guys taking more reps during practice.
