FARGO, N.D. (Valley News Live) -- Payton Otterdahl is the new all-time collegiate record holder in the indoor shot put, as well as ranking No. 2 in the world this year. North Dakota State's all-world senior broke the all-time collegiate record at the Summit League Championships on Saturday, throwing 71-06.75 (21.81m) for the win.

He surpassed the previous record of 71-03.50 (21.73m), shared by Ryan Crouser of Texas (2016) and Ryan Whiting of Arizona State (2008), by over three inches. Otterdahl is now the 17th-best performer in world history in the indoor shot put.
