FARGO, N.D. (NDSU Athletics) -- North Dakota State University senior track & field athlete Payton Otterdahl made another appearance on the most recent installment of The Bowerman Watch List on Thursday.
Payton Otterdahl claims the NCAA Division I Weight Throw National Championship.
Otterdahl seized a spot on the list on Feb. 7 and has remained on it since. The Bison senior recently finished runner-up to 2016 Olympic gold medalist Ryan Crouser in a special invitational shot put competition at the Drake Relays. Otterdahl battled tough conditions at the event, but still sent four throws farther than 20.65m (67-9). That came one week after he notched an outdoor personal-best and school record of 21.37m (70-1½) at the Beach Invitational.
Otterdahl currently ranks second in the NCAA in the shot put and third in the nation in the discus. He also leads The Summit League and ranks second in school history in the hammer throw.
Indoors, Otterdahl set the all-time collegiate record in the shot put and swept the NCAA titles in the shot put and weight throw.
