North Dakota begins prep for Sam Houston State

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (Valley News Live) -- The University of North Dakota football team welcomes Sam Houston State to the Alerus Center Saturday.

The Bearkats are ranked No. 24 in the latest STATS FCS Top 25.

UND will start Andrew Zimmerman at quarterback again this week.
Nate Ketteringham is still recovering from his injury suffered during the first game of the season.

Speaking Monday, UND Head Coach Bubba Schweigert said he felt Zimmerman ran the offense and kept his composure against North Dakota State last week.

"Overall we were pleased. It was his first start for us so we're going to continue to challenge him to learn the plan and to lead our offense to get better and better each and every day," Schweigert said.

One thing Schweigert would like to see improve offensively is holding on to the football and sustaining drives to get into a rhythm.

The Fighting Hawks lost the time of possession battle by over ten minutes to NDSU.

With SHSU bringing in a high-powered and fast-paced offense, Schwigert feels the best defense could be an efficient and clock controlling offense.

"We've got to find that balance between when we want to go fast too, and gain an advantage, but we've also got to do it by keeping the clock running, moving the chains. We'll look for ways to do that throughout the week."
