North Dakota State advances in NCAA Tournament

DAYTON, Ohio (Valley News Live) -- North Dakota State is marching on after a 78-74 win over North Carolina Central in the First Four game.

Tyson Ward led the Bison in scoring with 23 points. His lay-in with 30 seconds remaining in the game capped off a 14-4 run for NDSU giving the Bison a 75-70 lead.

NDSU led 40-34 at halftime and extended the lead to 13 in the opening moments of the second half, but the Eagles went on a run and tied the game with 7:55 to go.

Vinnie Shahid scored 14 points in 31 minutes including two free throws in the final ten seconds of the game to give NDSU the 78-74 win.

NDSU heads to Columbia, South Carolina to meet #1 overall seed Duke in the First Round Friday at 6:10 p.m. on KX-4.
