FRISCO, Texas (Valley News Live) -- North Dakota State senior quarterback Easton Stick is one of three finalists for the STATS FCS Walter Payton Award.
The ceremony takes place Friday night and because Stick wanted to keep to his pregame routine he will not attend it.
Bison Head Coach Chris Klieman speaking Friday during the pregame press conference said he and Stick had multiple conversations about whether to attend or not but ultimately Stick decided to keep preparing for Saturday's FCS National Championship game.
"Easton did not come here to win individual awards," Klieman said. "Easton came here to win championships and that's the conversation that he and I had. I will support him in anything he does and he said, coach I would rather stay and continue my preparation because it's about the guys in the locker room."
Klieman along with NDSU Director of Athletics Matt Larsen, quarterbacks coach Randy Hedberg, and members of Stick's family will represent him at the ceremony.
