NDSU’s Lance Named MVFC Offensive Player and Newcomer of the Week

North Dakota State quarterback Trey Lance was named Missouri Valley Football Conference Offensive Player of the Week and Newcomer of the Week by the league office Sunday, Sept. 1.

Lance, from Marshall, Minn., became the first NDSU freshman quarterback to start a season opener and accounted for 301 yards and six touchdowns in the 57-10 win over Butler at Target Field in Minneapolis.

Lance had five carries for 116 yards with touchdown runs of 33 and 61 yards, and went 10 of 11 passing for 185 yards and four TDs in three quarters of action.

The Bison rolled up 388 yards rushing and 605 yards of total offense in their 22nd consecutive victory, the longest active winning streak in FCS.

No. 1-ranked North Dakota State returns to Gate City Bank Field at the Fargodome for the home opener at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, against North Dakota.
