ST. LOUIS (NDSU Athletics) -- North Dakota State cornerback Josh Hayes was named Missouri Valley Football Conference Defensive Player of the Week by the league office Sunday, Oct. 27. It is his first career player of the week award.
Hayes’ first career interception was a big one for North Dakota State in a 23-16 win at South Dakota State. On third-and-9, the junior from Lakeland, Fla., made a leaping catch at the 15-yard line to stop SDSU with 4:56 left and kept the game tied at 16. The Bison scored the winning touchdown on the next drive.
Hayes finished with six tackles – all solos – and also had a pass breakup as the Bison won their 29th straight game.
No. 1-ranked North Dakota State (8-0, 4-0 MVFC) plays Youngstown State (5-3, 1-3 MVFC) at 6 p.m. ET this Saturday, Nov. 2, at Stambaugh Stadium in Youngstown, Ohio.
