NDSU Rallies Past Abilene Christian, Falls to Texas State at Bobcat Classic

Cara Beatty hit a two-out RBI double in the bottom of the seventh as North Dakota State rallied past Abilene Christian 6-5, but host Texas State had a seven-run fifth to beat the Bison 9-1 on Sunday, Feb. 10, in the Texas State Bobcat Classic played at Bobcat Softball Stadium.

NDSU (2-1) is scheduled to play host Texas State (2-1) at 4 p.m. Monday, Feb. 11.

Beatty, a sophomore from Las Vegas, Nev., had an impressive day at the plate, going 4-for-6 with four RBI, three runs score, a pair of doubles and a home run. Her double in the seventh inning against Abilene Christian scored Sam Koehn and capped off a rally that saw the Bison come back from an early 5-0 deficit.

Abilene Christian (1-3) led 5-0 after the first two innings including a bases-clearing double to left center by Samantha Bradley. Tori Poullard went 3-for-3, while Bradley had two hits and also took the loss on the mound.

However, NDSU rallied with three runs in the bottom of the second to cut the deficit to 5-3. Beatty laced her first double, a two-run shot to center and then scored on a Lauren Reimers ground out.

North Dakota State scored twice in the fourth to tie the game at 5-all. Koehn scored on a wild pitch and Beatty on a Madyson Camacho ground out. Montana DeCamp had two hits, while Koehn went 2-for-2 with three runs scored and a double.

The Bison received solid work from relief pitcher Morgan Olson and KK Leddy. Olson, seeing the first action of her career, allowed only three hits, walked two and struck out two over 3.1 innings pitched. Leddy struck out two and walked on over the final two innings for the win.

NDSU snuffed out a run at the plate in the top of the seventh, when second baseman Zoe Stavrou and catcher Maddie Hansen combined efforts.

Daliah Barrera fired a two-hitter and struck out eight as Texas State (2-1) exploded for seven runs in the fifth inning to take the final game of the day. Hailey MacKay went 2-for-3 with three RBI to lead a trio of Bobcats with a pair of hits.

MacKay put Texas State ahead with a two-run single in the first. The Bison cut the lead to 2-1 in the top of the fifth with Beatty's solo home run to left. Madyson Camacho added a double for NDSU.

Leddy (2-1) took the loss, working the first four-plus innings before being relieved by Kara O'Byrne.
