LAS VEGAS, Nev. (NDSU Athletics) -- No. 16-ranked Minnesota shut out North Dakota State 4-0, while Creighton rallied for a 7-4 win over the Bison on Saturday, Feb. 10, at the UNLV Sportco Kick Off Classic at Eller Media Stadium.
NDSU (1-3) is scheduled to close out tournament play against Utah Valley at 1:15 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 11.
Minnesota (3-0) took advantage of a pair of hit batters and walk to jump out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. MaKenna Partain scored on a wild pitch.
The Gophers extended the lead to 4-0 in the fifth on Dani Wagner’s three-run home to center.
North Dakota State was limited to singles by Katie Shoultz in the first and Stephanie Soriano in the seventh by Minnesota pitcher Amber Fiser (2-0). Fiser struck out four and walked two in facing 23 batters.
Jacquelyn Sertic (0-2) picked up the loss. Sertic struck out five and walked four.
Hope Moreno went 4 for 4 with four runs batted in and a pair of doubles to lead the Bluejays (2-1) to the win in the second game.
North Dakota State did take a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the second on a Shoultz RBI single and Soriano sacrifice fly.
Trailing 4-2, NDSU battled back to tie the game at 4-all in the fifth. Bre Beatty delivered a run-scoring base hit and Maddie Hansen received a bases-loaded walk to knock in another.
Shoultz, Beatty and Hansen each had two hits for the Bison.
KK Leddy (1-1) picked up the loss. She struck out five and issued no walks. Bryana Clark and Kiele Miller pitched for Creighton with Miller earning the win. The pair combined to strike out seven and walk five. Miller allowed only one hit over the final three innings.
