SACRAMENTO, Calif. (NDSU Athletics) -- North Dakota State University redshirt freshman thrower Akealy Moton improved her shot put school record and locked up a spot at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday evening at the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds.

Moton unleashed a toss of 57-01.50 (17.41m) on her first attempt to finish second overall in the meet. The top 12 finishers advance to the NCAA Championships in Austin, Texas, on June 5-8.

Moton extended her previous school record mark by three inches.

Bison junior Bailey Retzlaff took 17th in the shot put, throwing 52-05.50 (15.99m). While she won’t advance in the shot, Retzlaff is already qualified for the NCAA Championships in the hammer throw.

DeMar will enter her senior season ranked fifth all-time at NDSU in the outdoor triple jump.
