BEMIDJI, Minn. (Valley News Live) -- Thomas Horan scored two goals as the Moorhead Spuds beat Brainerd 3-2 Wednesday night in the Section 8AA Championship Game.

Nolan Westra secured the game's first goal in the second period on a turnover in the Warriors zone. Westra's wrist shot beat Brainerd goaltender Luke Saiko to give Moorhead a 1-0 lead.

Less than a minute later, after a near goal, Horan off a face-off in the Brainerd zone used a wrap around to double the Spuds lead.

Horan's third goal proved to be the game winner after Brainerd scored once in the second period and again in the third.

With the win, the Spuds improve to 21-6-1 and increase their winning streak to 12 games.

The Minnesota High School Boys' Hockey State Tournament begins March 6th from the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.
