Michigan State fans get assist from Tom Izzo

MINNEAPOLIS (Valley News Live) -- After a doctor's appointment in the morning Ross and Morgan Maltby were going to go to dinner Friday night with family and friends but decided to give something else a try during the Final Four.

"Michigan State made it here and two days ago he was like, what if we try and get (Spartans player) Cassius (Winston) to open the envelope," Morgan said. "We had my appointment this morning and I was like, why stop at Cassius? Let's try and get Tom."

The "Tom" Morgan wanted to get help from is legendary Michigan State head coach Tom Izzo.

The Maltby's live in Minneapolis now, but Ross is from Michigan and graduated from Michigan State.

"We had an appointment at 10:20 this morning so we drove straight from there and got here at 12:30 I guess," Ross said. "We weaseled our way down and we had a lot of help to get down here."

The pair had a sign reading "Izzo's Help Needed Future Spartan Gender Inside" with an envelope from the ultrasound.

Two hours after arriving at U.S. Bank Stadium for open practices they got the coaches attention and were invited up to the court for the coach to reveal the couple are having a boy.

"I think as soon as Tom acknowledged us I was like, oh my gosh," Morgan explained. "My heart started beating, I'm sweating. It was surreal."

With some teamwork and an incredible assist the Maltby's made their Final Four dream come true.

"Everything fell into place," Ross said. "And now we're having a boy revealed by Tom Izzo."

The two think this will be a good omen for their Spartans this weekend. They also say the name Tom has moved up on their list of baby names.
