MOORHEAD, Minn. (MSUM Athletics) -- Junior forward Megan Hintz recorded her eighth double-double of the season to help the Minnesota State University Moorhead women's basketball team earn its 13th straight win, a 71-57 victory over Wayne State (Neb.) in action Friday at Nemzek Fieldhouse.
MSUM is now 15-2 overall and 11-0 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference while Wayne State fell to 11-6 overall and 6-5 in the league. MSUM holds a two-game lead over Augustana and Minnesota Duluth after Friday's play.
Hintz finished with 21 points and 12 rebounds on 9-of-15 shooting. Senior guard Jacky Volkert had 16 points and four assists while junior forward Madi Green had 13 points and nine rebounds. Sophomore guard Kiley Borowicz had nine points, eight rebounds and five assists.
After trailing 18-15 after one quarter MSUM took control in the second, outscoring the Wildcats 21-10 to take a 36-28 lead into halftime. MSUM was down 23-21 but ended the half with a 15-5 run to surge into the lead. Hintz had 10 points in the second quarter to spark the Dragons.
MSUM pushed the lead to 50-34 in the third on a three-pointer by Brooklyn Liegel. The Wildcats got within nine late int he third but MSUM pulled away in the fourth, stretching the lead to as many as 22 on its way to a 13th consecutive win.
The Dragons out rebounded the Wildcats 44-37. They had a big advantage in points off of turnovers as well, 17-3.
MSUM hosts Augustana at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday in a pivotal NSIC showdown.
