COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (UND Athletics) -- Junior Matt Kiersted was named the back-to-back recipient of the National Collegiate Hockey Conference’s Defenseman of the Week Monday following his torrid stretch over the past four games. The Elk River, Minn., product delivered four more points this past week in a road split at No. 11 Minnesota Duluth and now has piled up nine points in his last four contests.
Kiersted extended his streak of multi-point games to four with four points on the weekend with a pair of goals and two assists.
Friday, he assisted on Jordan Kawaguchi’s power play goal then scored himself just 99 seconds later for a 3-1 UND lead. Saturday, he setup the game’s first goal then scored the game-tying tally in the third as UND rallied from down 2-1 to start the final period for a 3-2 win.
On the season, the junior has 23 points and 19 assists, both second-most on the team. His 23 points rank second among defensemen in the NCHC and 8th among all NCAA blue liners.
He becomes the 14th UND weekly honoree this season and third for Kiersted this season.
