DETROIT LAKES, Minn. (Valley News Live) -- North Dakota State men's golfer Andrew Israelson won the first playoff hole over Nate Adams at the 87th Pine to Palm Sunday to claim the Championship Flight.

Israelson, from Staples, Minnesota, trailed at the turn after Adams, from Maple Grove, Minnesota took a 3-up lead through the first nine holes.

Israelson rallied back and sank a putt on the 18th hole to pull even in the match.

Adams nearly made an impressive chip from off the green on the first playoff hole after finding himself way off the fairway on his approach and up against a fence for his fourth shot.

Israelson was able to score a four on the playoff hole and take the win 1-up.

"It's exciting after you win, but being down is not fun. I kind of got in a little bit of a slump with my attitude but my caddy was really positive the whole time -- it actually kind of irritated me at points -- but I can kind of thank her for helping out," Israelson said, referring to NDSU Women's golfer and Detroit Lakes native Maddie Herzog, who was helping him through the round.
