GRAND FORKS, N.D. (UND Athletics) -- Senior Lexi Klabo scored 24 points as she entered the Fighting Hawks' top-10 in career scoring versus Oral Roberts (15-12, 8-6 Summit) Saturday afternoon. However, the Golden Eagles' Lakota Beatty scored an opponent season-high 35 points to down UND, 80-58.
North Dakota's (10-16, 5-8 Summit) Klabo was 8-of-17 from the field, scoring 24 points while finishing one board shy of a double-double. She has scored 20 points in 10 games this season. Beatty went 14-for-20 from the field with six threes in her new career-best performance.
"I thought (Oral Roberts) played really well. They did a good job of getting the ball in Beatty's hands, and she made it her show," said UND Head Coach Travis Brewster. "We took some timeouts to try to slow her down and get the matchups we wanted, but we still couldn't find it. I thought down the stretch we did alright, but the damage was already done."
While Klabo scored the first five points for North Dakota to notch her new career mark, ORU built a double-digit lead quickly in the second quarter after hitting eight of their 12 shots from the field (66.7-percent), entering the locker room with a 10-point lead, 38-28. Klabo and Beatty both tallied 11 points in the half.
As the Golden Eagles continued to knock down shots, Klabo attacked the basket to keep the Hawks within striking distance. Her teammates in the post, Faith Dooley and Julia Fleecs, helped UND account for 18 of its 20 third-quarter points.
"Lexi did a good job of putting points on the board, but we have to get some easier ones, they can't just be tough and miraculous points. We have to be able to knock down some 15-footers and some layups."
Though UND found some rhythm in the game, it was Oral Roberts 61.5 percent shooting in the final three periods that proved the difference.
Dooley added eight points and four rebounds for the Fighting Hawks. As a team, North Dakota outscored Oral Roberts 17-9 at the charity stripe.
North Dakota will return to action next Saturday, Feb. 23 when it hosts Denver on Senior Day. The game will also be UND's #SetTheExpectation game, bringing awareness to sexual violence on college campuses.
Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. Central.
