Gophers running back arrested in Minneapolis

MINNEAPOLIS (KARE 11 Staff) - Minneapolis Police spokesperson Sgt. Darcy Horn says MPD officers took Shannon Nicholas Brooks into custody Sunday morning at about 1:15 a.m.

Horn says officers arrested Brooks near the 600 block of 15th Ave. SE in Dinkytown on suspicion of misdemeanor domestic assault.

Hennepin County Jail records show Brooks was booked into the jail about an hour and a half after his arrest.

KARE 11 has reached out to the University of Minnesota's Athletic Department for comment but have yet to receive a response.

Gophers head football coach P.J. Fleck announced in March Brooks will be out for the rest of the season due to a lower leg injury that required surgery.

At the time, Fleck said Brooks is expected to return for the 2019 season.
