GRAND FORKS, N.D. (UND Athletics) -- Four signed recruits for North Dakota were taken in the NHL Draft Saturday held at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, B.C. UND ran its streak to 21 consecutive seasons with at least one player drafted and, with its four Saturday, have tallied multiple picks in 19 of those seasons.
Day one of the draft was expected to be riddled with trades and movement and didn't really produce. Day two, though, made up for lost time. Several trades were announced before round two even began and the trade waters continued to surge all day long.
Ottawa selected its third UND player in the first two rounds over the last two seasons when it opened day two and the second round by taking incoming freshman Shane Pinto from Tri-City (USHL). In all, four different teams found UND signees with Winnipeg scooping up Harrison Blaisdell in the fifth round, Pittsburgh securing Grand Forks native Judd Caulfield in that same round, and Massimo Rizzo going to Carolina in the penultimate selection of the draft (7th round).
