Fiser Fans 12, Leads No. 7 Seed Minnesota Past NDSU 3-0 at NCAA Regional

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (NDSU Athletics) – Big Ten Conference Pitcher of the Year Amber Fiser struck out 12 and recorded her ninth shutout of the season as No. 7-seed Minnesota defeated North Dakota State 3-0 in the NCAA Regional played Friday, May 17, before a crowd of 1,158 at Jane Sage Cowles Stadium.

North Dakota State (42-15) is scheduled to play Drake University (42-15) in an elimination game at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, May 18. Minnesota advanced to play Georgia (41-17) at 3 p.m. Saturday. Georgia defeated Drake 6-4 on a Ciara Bryan walk-off two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Fiser (27-7) limited NDSU to three hits – Maddie Hansen's lead-off single in the second inning, Vanessa Anderson's one-out base hit in the fourth and Sam Koehn's single with two out in the fifth inning. Fiser issued no walks in the complete game win.

North Dakota State starter KK Leddy matched Fiser for most of the game. Leddy allowed six hits, walked five and struck out three over the first 5.1 innings before giving way to Paige Vargas, who struck out two and walked a pair to close out the game.

Minnesota (42-12) made the most of limited scoring opportunities. In the second, Katelyn Kemetmueller was hit by pitch and moved to third on a Allie Arneson single and Bison error. Kemetmueller scored on a passed ball to put the Gophers ahead 1-0.

Carlie Brandt opened the bottom of the fifth with an infield single, and advanced to third on a ground out and NDSU error. Maddie Houlihan lifted a sacrifice fly to center to score Brandt to extend the Minnesota lead to 2-0. A bases loaded walk in the bottom of the sixth made the final. Brandt had two of the Gophers six hits.
