Klieman unsure how new redshirt rule will affect fall camp evaluations

FARGO, N.D. (Valley News Live) -- The NCAA passed a new rule over the off-season that will allow a player to play in up to four games and maintain redshirt status.

North Dakota State has had the luxury of redshirting most, if not all, of their incoming freshman over the past several seasons.

With the new rule Bison Head Coach Chris Klieman says the way he and his staff will evaluate the players has changed and he's not sure yet how they plan to implement their use of the rule.

"It'll just make our evaluation that much longer," Klieman said following Friday's first practice. "Usually mid-September you want to kind of make as kind of your last date and now we'll take it into all the way into the season if they can help us."

The Bison open the season September 1 at home against Cal Poly.
