Grimsley is one of three starters returning to the Bison backfield. A two-time all-conference first team pick and 2017 All-American, Grimsley was third on the team with 69 tackles and led the Bison with 12 passes defended and four interceptions.

Steidl brings leadership from a depth heavy defensive line. In all seven regulars return from last year. Steidl was a second team all-conference pick last year and had 32 tackles and eight hurries for a defensive unit that ranked first in the FCS in total defense.

Dickinson, North Dakota native Levi Jordheim joins the Bison as a captain this year as he returns from a season ending knee injury last year. The linebackers were led by current NFL prospect Nick DeLuca and then freshman Jabril Cox last year. Jordheim missed five games late in the season, along with fellow senior Dan Marlette who made two starts before suffering a season-ending knee injury in the fourth game of the year.
