MOORHEAD, Minn. — Minnesota State University Moorhead head track and field coach Ryan Milner has announced that Steffan Stroh has been named the throwing coach for the Dragon program.
A native of Underwood, Minn., Stroh was a standout thrower at at Division I North Dakota State from 2013-18.
"Finding the right coach to guide and develop our throws programs is essential to the overall progression of track and field here at MSUM," Milner said. "In talking with Steffan the reasons that he has a tremendous reputation in the throws community became evident. He has a strong technical understanding of the sport, is willing to work hard, and is a gifted leader. I'm excited to have Steffan join our coaching staff."
Stroh won four Summit League titles in the throws, including winning the shot put indoors and hammer throw outdoors in 2018. He won the hammer and discus outdoors in 2017.
In 2018 he ranked 46th in the NCAA in the shot put and weight throw indoors and ranked 16th in the hammer and 38th in the shot put outdoors.
Stroh ended his NDSU career as the school record holder in the hammer throw (224-10) and second all-time in the discus. He finished with 10 All-Summit League honors in his career.
Milner announced that three former Dragon standouts have joined the staff as volunteer assistants.
Brian Huber has joined the staff as an assistant in the jumps. Huber was the 2018 NCAA Division II National Champion in the long jump and finished as the school's record holder. He finished his career with a national championship, four first-team All-American honors and five NSIC titles.
Cody Christ joins the staff after a standout distance career at MSUM. He was the 2017 NSIC Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year and also earned second-team All-American honors in his career. Christ was the NSIC runner-up in cross country in 2016. He will help with the distance runners.
MaKenzie Smith was a three-time All-NSIC selection in cross country, including first team in 2015. She also recorded several top 10 finishes during her cross country career and contributed in the distance events in track. A native of Donnelly, Minn., Smith will aide the distance runners.
