FARGO, N.D. (Valley News Live) -- The North Dakota State Volleyball team will open the regular season in New York at the University of Buffalo Blue & White Classic tournament.
The Bison are scheduled to play Seton Hall, Niagara, and Buffalo over the course of two days.
NDSU has never faced any of the programs which presents a unique challenge.
"It's something that we've just got to take head on and kind of treat them as any other team that we play against," senior outside hitter McKenzie Burke said. "It's no different than if we go play SDSU."
The players tell Valley News Live Sports watching film and making quick recognition on the court will be crucial to picking up wins.
"Instead of knowing our opponents already, just already knowing that stuff, we kind of have to be more on our game and pick up those things a little quicker," sophomore middle hitter Bella Lien said.
The Bison open the season with 11 of their first 12 matches away from home.
Head Coach Jennifer Lopez said the idea behind playing teams from different areas in the non-conference was to help the Bison when Summit League play starts.
She's sold the idea to her players too.
"You know we'll be used to different atmospheres, large arenas, just to kind of get us to be more comfortable being away," Lien said.
"I think also its good to kind of get a feel of not being in your comfortable surroundings and not being around people who know you, not necessarily having that big of a crowd even because we are travelling pretty far," Burke said.
