Bison Pull Out 77-74 Victory at South Dakota, Ride Winning Streak to Seven
The North Dakota State men’s basketball team won its seventh straight game Wednesday night, going on the road to earn a 77-74 victory at South Dakota and sweep the season series with the Coyotes.
NDSU improved to 20-7 overall and 11-2 in The Summit League, matching the 2013-14 Bison squad for the best conference record through 13 games.
The Bison had four players score in double figures, led by senior point guard Vinnie Shahid with 27 points and four assists. Rocky Kreuser scored 15 points, Tyson Ward added 14 points and seven boards, and Tyree Eady finished with 10 points and a career-high nine rebounds.
NDSU held a 35-28 lead at halftime after closing the half on a 14-4 run. The Bison stretched the lead to 11 at 46-35 five minutes into the second half.
South Dakota rattled off an 11-0 run to pull ahead briefly at 49-48 with just over 11 minutes remaining, but Ward responded immediately with a corner three to give the lead back to the Bison.
Kreuser drained a pivotal three-pointer to put the Bison up 68-61 with two minutes left, and NDSU made 9-of-10 at the free throw line in the final minute of the game.
The Bison entered the game ranked third in the NCAA in free throw shooting this season and made 25-of-30 (83 percent) in the contest.
The Bison secured their seventh 20-win season in the school’s Division I era, and the third in six years under head coach David Richman. Richman, who also owns a pair of 19-win seasons, is now tied for the second-most 20-win seasons in NDSU history.
It was the eighth road win of the season for NDSU – the most in the past decade, other than the 2013-14 Bison team that won 10 times on the road.
The Bison play next at North Dakota on Saturday night at 7 p.m.
