Bison Men’s Track & Field Ranked 3rd in Midwest Region, Lead Nation in Hammer Throw Rankings

FARGO, N.D. (NDSU Athletics) – The North Dakota State men’s track & field team is ranked third in the Midwest Region in the latest USTFCCCA rankings released this week. In addition, the Bison men are No. 1 in the NCAA in the hammer throw and No. 2 in the shot put in the USTFCCCA Event Squad Rankings.

The event squad rankings rank teams within each single event – averaging the best performances from the top four athletes at each school in each event. The NDSU men are ranked first nationally in the hammer throw and second in the country in the shot put.

In the hammer, Payton Otterdahl, Alex Talley, Jacob Slate and Michael Keogan lead the nation with an average of 208-7 (63.59m) – which is more than seven feet better than second-place Minnesota. All four Bison men have surpassed 60 meters this season, while no other school in the country has four men beyond even 57 meters.

NDSU’s top four in the shot put (Otterdahl, Kristoffer Thomsen, Talley and Keogan) average a mark of 63-10.75 (19.48m) to stand behind UCLA for the top spot in the nation. The Bison are the only team in the country with four men over 60 feet in the shot put.
