FARGO, N.D. (Valley News Live) -- When North Dakota State (4-0, 1-0 MVFC) goes to Springfield, Missouri this weekend they’ll be taking on a much improved Missouri State football team.
The Bears (3-1, 1-0 MVFC) have already tripled their win total from all of last season under second year head coach Dave Steckel.
Steckel and the Bears did a lot of growing up during the course of last year’s 1-10 season and through the first four games this season.
But Steckel admits his team still has some growing up left to do, “We're at a point in our program where we have to get better every day. We have to get fundamentally sound, we have to do all the little things right and when we grow up we can be them hopefully.”
When the Bison met the Bears last year in Fargo it was a 55-0 NDSU win. Steckel says his team understands the challenge of playing the No. 1 team in the FCS but he’s not stressing who is on the opposing sideline to his team.
“The challenge is within ourselves. It's not the other team. I said this when we played Southwestern (Kansas) and I wasn't trying to be disrespectful to them and I'm not trying to be disrespectful to the national champions.”
Coverage of NDSU vs. Missouri St. begins Saturday, October 8th, at 1 p.m. on the KVLY KFYR Bison Network with the Farmers Union Insurance Bison Football Pregame Show.
The game kicks at 2 p.m.
