Bast named NCHC Defenseman of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.-- Sophomore Gabe Bast (Red Deer, Alta.) has been named the National Collegiate Hockey Conference's Defenseman of the Week, released today by league officials. Bast scored a pair of goals Saturday and was a +2 for the weekend at Omaha.

Bast recorded his first career two-goal game Saturday, scoring late in the first period for UND's first tally. He then added a power-play marker a little over three minutes later as North Dakota built a 3-1 lead in the second.

The sophomore is UND's sixth NCHC weekly honoree with five coming on defense, including last week (Jacob Bernard-Docker).

North Dakota hosts the new No. 1-ranked team in the country this weekend when St. Cloud State comes calling to the Ralph Engelstad Arena for the teams' only meetings this season.
