ST. LOUIS (NDSU Athletics) -- North Dakota State quarterback Trey Lance was named Missouri Valley Football Conference Newcomer of the Week by the league office Sunday, Oct. 6, for his performance in NDSU's victory at Illinois State.
Lance, a redshirt freshman from Marshall, Minn., was 12 of 15 passing for 189 yards and three touchdowns in the 37-3 win over the sixth-ranked Redbirds. He added seven carries for 43 yards, including a 27-yard carry from the NDSU 8 to start a 92-yard scoring drive in the fourth quarter.
Lance is second in the FCS with a 73.6 completion percentage and leads the FCS with a 204.7 pass efficiency rating. He is 64 of 87 passing for 887 yards and 12 touchdowns with zero interceptions in his first five starts.
This is Lance's third conference player of the week award. He was named Offensive Player of the Week and Newcomer of the Week on Sept. 1 after accounting for six touchdowns in the season-opener against Butler.
North Dakota State (5-0, 1-0 MVFC) takes a 26-game winning streak into the NDSU homecoming game against Northern Iowa at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12.
