Woman caught shoplifting stabs store employee

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Police say they tased and arrested a woman after she stabbed a gas station employee over a box of chicken.

Public Information Officer Sam Clemens said 21-year-old Chaely Raye Escamilla, a transient, tried to shoplift some frozen chicken around 8 a.m. Friday. The employee confronted her outside and took back the box of chicken.

Police say the woman then stabbed the employee in the shoulder with a knife.

A South Dakota Highway Patrol trooper later found the woman. When a police officer arrived to help the trooper, authorities say the suspect threatened both of them with a knife.

The trooper used a stun gun on the suspect, who was arrested. The victim was taken to a hospital, where he was treated and released.

She is facing charges of aggravated assault and shoplifting.
