UPDATE: William Hoehn plans on appealing life sentencing

UPDATE: Monday morning a judge sentenced William Hoehn to life in prison with the possibility of parole for kidnapping a newborn baby and lying to police about it.

Hoehn's attorney says he will appeal his life sentence to the North Dakota Supreme Court.

Before Judge Olson handed down that life sentence, the court heard from a heartbroken Norberta Greywind.

She pleaded with the court to bring justice to her daughter and never let William Hoehn walk free again.

"My life has been forever changed. As for Savanna's daughter, this man tried to take her and raise her as his own. He said the days he spent with my granddaughter were the happiest days of his life. How sick is that?" Norberta said.

We then heard from Hoehn himself who gave apology after apology to the Greywind's and the community for his actions against savanna and baby Haisley Jo. Hoehn recommended to the court he only serve 7 years in prison, one year for every day he was involved in the kidnapping, along with five years of parole.

"Know that I'm ashamed of my actions. I would not and could not act as I did on those days ever again. I'm not a crazed criminal, but I know I acted crazy. From a place of wrong," Hoehn said.

The maximum prison sentence for Hoehn's two charges was 21 years.

However at the prosecution's request, the judge ruled that Hoehn is a dangerous offender, which is how his fate ended in a life sentence.

Unlike Brooke Crews, Hoehn is eligible for parole.

However, he will not be considered for that for another 25 to 30 years.

ORIGINAL: The man who kidnapped Savanna Greywind last year will learn his fate today.

William Hoehn will be sentenced at 11 Monday morning in Cass County Court.

He pleaded guilty to conspiring to commit kidnapping in the death of Greywind, but was acquitted of conspiracy to commit murder.

Greywind was eight months pregnant when she disappeared from her north Fargo apartment on August 19, 2017. Her body was found in the Red River.

Hoehn's former girlfriend, Brooke Crews, is serving a life sentence for conspiracy to commit murder and kidnapping.
