West Fargo celebrates Arbor Day with tree dedication

WEST FARGO, N.D. ( Valley News Live ) - West Fargo officially celebrated Arbor Day Friday by honoring a longtime West Fargo resident.

This annual celebration included a proclamation From West Fargo Mayor Bernie Dardis and a ceremonial tree planting ceremony.

Miriam Arves was selected by the Urban Forestry Committee in celebration of her tenure as the former director of the West Fargo public library.

"You know it's kind of now starting to sink in and I'm really honored with it...it's something fantastic. The tree I guess is going to be planted in a park that's about a block or so from my house so that's going to be fun," said Arves.

A group of fourth graders from L. E. Berger Elementary helped celebrate the occasion by reciting a poem.

Afterwards the 4th graders helped plant the tree by each putting a garden trowel full of dirt into the pot.

The tree will live at Tintes Park in the 100 block of 6th ave E.
