Suspected mechanical issue causes vehicle fire that briefly closed down Fargo exit ramp

UPDATE: July 28th, 1:42 P.M.

The 2001 Land Rover, driven by Alexis Nelson, 18, of Fargo was traveling eastbound on I-94 and exited at 25th St S in Fargo. A passenger, Deven Campbel, 26, of West Fargo, stated he heard a loud noise then the Land Rover started on fire.

The vehicle was stopped on the shoulder of the off-ramp and both Nelson and Campbell were able to exit the vehicle without injury. A suspected mechanical issue caused the fire. The exit ramp was closed for approximately 2 hours while emergency crews cleared the scene.

The vehicle is pulled over along the eastbound side on the 25th Street Exit.

Large black smoke began to build in the sky before fire crews arrived on scene.

Firefighters arrived on scene and were quickly able to get the fire under control.

Scanner traffic indicted that everyone that was inside the vehicle at the time of the fire was able to make it out. No word on any injuries.
