Ulen-Hitterdal student named homecoming queen after dying in car crash

CLAY COUNTY, Minn. (Valley News Live) -- Ulen-Hitterdal students honor Alivia Mortenson as homecoming queen three months after she died in a car crash.

Alivia Mortenson, 17, was elected as homecoming queen at the end of Spring 2019, but on June 2nd, she died in a car crash in Clay County.

Ulen-Hitterdal students, staff and the Mortenson family, gathered for a coronation for Alivia to be homecoming queen Monday night.

Alivia's mother and two sisters walked up to the stage to accept the honor.

Ulen-Hitterdal principal Kent Henrickson said Alivia was an honor student that played volleyball, basketball and softball.

The principal told Valley News Live that it was a very emotional night and the students have a lot of respect for Alivia.
