(AP) North Dakota's corn and soybean crops are expected to slip in 2018.
Based on September 1 conditions, the U.S. Department of Agriculture says North Dakota's soybean harvest is forecast at 236 million bushels, down 2 percent from last year.
Soybean acres for harvest are pegged at 6.55 million, 7 percent below 2017. Average yield is forecast at 36 bushels per acre, up 2 bushels from last year.
North Dakota farmers are expected to harvest 440 million bushels of corn, down 2 percent from last year. Area harvested for grain is estimated at 3.1 million acres, down 4 perc4ent from 2017. Average yield is forecast at 142 bushels per acre, up 3 bushels from last year.
Sugar beet production is forecast at 6.46 million tons, up slightly from last year's crop.
