CNBC Attorney General Jeff Sessions is leaving the Trump administration after more than a year of public criticism from his boss, President Donald Trump.

The 71-year-old Sessions departs after the president repeatedly hammered him about his decision last year to recuse himself from the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election and whether the Trump campaign colluded with the Kremlin. Trump says that moment opened the door to special counsel Robert Mueller's probe, which the president has repeatedly called a "witch hunt."
