Trial set for Bismarck man accused of pulling cat with a nylon rope, causing broken bones

BISMARCK, N.D. (KFYR) The Bismarck man accused of pulling a cat with a nylon rope and causing broken bones pleaded not guilty Monday.

Sixty-three-year-old Michael Heath is charged with animal cruelty. Bismarck investigators say Heath was dragging his cat in July with a nylon rope attached to its neck. Officers say the cat was crying, vomiting and coughed up blood.

Heath denied intentionally hurting the cat to authorities.

The vet told police the cat had a broken sternum and the only humane outcome was to euthanize the animal because of its grave condition.

His trial is scheduled for December 27.
