GRAND FORKS, N.D. (Valley News Live) A teenager is safe after being rescued from flood waters in Grand Forks Monday night.

Police were called to the Lincoln Park area just before midnight, after a neighbor heard someone yelling for help. Officers could hear a man but couldn't see him, then the water rescue team was called in and they located the guy standing on a tree limb in the river.

Nineteen-year-old Trevor Binstock of Grand Forks said he went kayaking to see the river, and that the strong current pushed his kayak into a cement building and capsized it. He was wearing a life jacket and he was able to swim to a nearby tree. Binstock figures he was in the water for about 30 minutes before police got there.

Police say this is a good reminder to stay off of the river during floods.
